ANNUAL CHARITY NIGHT FUNCTION 2005
The Annual Charity Night is the main fundraising
event for the SAD kids projects. On October
6 it was held at The Crystal Palace, at Luna
Park. The Crystal Palace offered beautiful views
of both Sydney Harbour and Lavender Bay combined
with the magical harbour side surrounds of this
iconic setting, making it an unforgettable evening
of goodwill, fabulous food and live entertainment.
The Master of Ceremonies for the evening was
Sophie Falkiner, presenter of Channel 7’s
“The Great Outdoors”. Sophie enthralled
guests with her grace and charm. The guests
began arriving around 7pm, whereupon canapés
and drinks were served. During the meal the
guests were entertained by pianist Andrew Ross
and afterwards the classic rock of Lucky Starr
invited guests to ‘groove it up’
on the dance-floor.
The main auction was conducted by the Chairman
of Sotheby’s, Justin Miller. Auction prizes
included advertising in New Idea and on Channel
7, 2 return tickets to New York or London, a
Linnaeus Estate holiday in Byron Bay, a private
movie screening, tickets to the ‘Dancing
with the Stars’ after-party, lunch at
Aria with Grant Hackett, or lunch on a yacht
on Sydney Harbour. The raffle was drawn by Tom
Williams and included fantastic prizes such
as Paspaley pearl jewellery, a weekend for 2
at the Marritz Alpine, and landscaping services.
Afterwards the entertainment continued with
a very special performance by Tom Williams and
his ‘Dancing with the Stars’ dance
partner, Kym Johnson. The Shy Guys accompanied
Tom’s dance and then played on until late
as the guests continued to dance the night away.
SAD kids wishes to thank Bluestone Events
and Management, the team at The Crystal Palace
Luna Park, and the organising committee. Special
thanks also to Channel 7 who provided a great
deal of support in particular Ms Jo Stennett
and Mr and Mrs Leckie. With more than 200 guests
in attendance and $120 000 in funds raised overall
the night was a huge success and allows the
SAD kids projects to expand and improve into
2006. Thank you to everyone!
